Bear Creek Cleanup
"You'll be amazed what you find..."
The Bear Creek Watershed is important to us all. In this urban setting, it is essential to help maintain clean water by doing our part.
Each May, BCWEP hosts a half day stream cleanup in conjuntion with SOLV's Down by the Riverside Program. Because more of the community is becoming directly involved with improving the Bear Creek watershed, we feel this event is essential.
The Bear Creek Clean Up event is open to the public, free and refreshments and prizes are provided. This is a great event for families or service groups. Our annual stream clean up grows each year and also includes: non-native plant removal, storm drain stenciling, water quality testing and general habitat improvements.
This year, the cleanup will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 8:30 am- Noon at Hawthorne Park in Medford, OR. New volunteers are always needed for the event. Please contact BCWEP Coordinator to schedule a volunteer group or to get more information on the event.
Through theAdopt-a-Stream program, schools or classes are taking responsibility for a section of the creek. As a part of this service learning program, students pick up trash twice a year and improve stream habitats and fisheries by planting trees and releasing salmon fry. Through these combined efforts, students are learning to be good stewards of our aquatic resources and realizing that they can make a positive difference in their communities. BCWEP also strives to be a part of these efforts.
